What I have been reading and my TBR shelf

I have been good (for me) with keeping up with my reading over the last couple of weeks. I wanted to curate a list of books I am planning to read in the coming months. I am even thinking of taking the Goodreads book challenge for the next year (crossing my fingers!).

I’ll first go on with what I have been reading/read for the past couple of weeks

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

I just finished reading this book. What an amazing book! This is my first Tolstoy book and I absolutely loved everything about it (well, almost everything). The characters have a charm that I can’t seem to describe. The way Tolstoy describes the then Russian society is brilliant! It is definitely a must-read for any classic lovers.

Verity by Colleen Hoover

When I first read this book, I actually liked it. But now that a few days have passed I am not sure how I feel about it. The suspense and drama aspect of it all was very nice. But I am not particularly fan of how the romance part was included in the book. It is definitely worth a read but I would give it a 3 out of 5 stars.

The House of New Beginnings by Lucy Diamond

This is a very warm cozy read. I enjoyed it very much. A nice warm heart heart-touching story. It is an easy read. Pick this up when you want to read something but don’t have the brain capacity to read a heavy book.

Tom Lake by Ann Patchett

Sigh. I don’t know where to begin. This is my first Ann Patchett book and I thought it would again be a warm cozy read. But this book got me very frustrated. I couldn’t connect to any of the characters in the book. The storyline was so boring (I can’t find any other word for it). This book had so many great reviews on Goodreads but I could not finish this book.

Ikigai by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles

This is a first for me. I don’t read many non-fiction books. It’s a nice book. I am currently still reading it, have a few more pages to go. I liked the idea of the book. It took me a while to get into it. Now, I try to read one chapter every day.

Now coming to my TBR shelf. I have a few books I recently added to my “to read” bookshelf on Goodreads. One of these books has shocked me, but I want to give it a try.

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

I read a lot of good reviews for this book. And I even heard that it’s a show now on Apple TV? I am not sure. But I am intrigued.

The Word is Murder by Anthony Horowitz

I love a good murder mystery and I like Horowitz’s work. I found this while browsing through my library shelf.

A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

I tried watching the series twice and felt it to be too gory and dark for my taste and very very bold. But book tube has convinced me that this is an amazing book that must not be missed at all costs. And I think they have convinced me to read it. I am very apprehensive about it. But I want to give it a shot (crossing my fingers).

I want to pick up a book by Haruki Murakami. I have heard so many good things about his book. I am not entirely sure what his books are about. Not even sure if I would like it. But I am trying to expand my reading horizon.

I also want to pick a classic – probably Jane Eyre. But I want to read a non-classic first. A tiny break after reading Anna Karenina.

That’s about it on my TBR and currently reading/read bookshelf. Can’t wait to read more. Hopefully, I can read more.
